- August
25, 2006: Congratulations to Alicia Valentino. The successful defense of her dissertation on the industrial archaeology of Van Winkle's Mill has made her the FIRST Ph.D. in anthropology produced by the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Look for a PDF version of her dissertation to be posted to this site in late September or early October.
- July 2006: The State
Review Board of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will consider
Van Winkle's Mill (and 27 other properties in 18 Arkansas counties)
for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places when it meets
at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2 in the meeting room of the Oyster Bar at
3003 W. Markham St. in Little Rock.
- June 6, 2006: The final
report on the 2005 archaeological investigations at the blacksmith shop
and the mill area (written by Alicia Valentino) is now available for
download in PDF format in two versions: a
high resoultion version (7.87MB) or a smaller, black
and white scan (1.77MB).
- May 29, 2006: Katherine
Cleek, a Ph.D. student at the University
of Arkansas has prepared a National
Register of Historic Places nomination for Van Winkle's Mill as
a part of her research assistantship at the Arkansas
Archeological Survey. It has been submitted and we had addressed
some comments...we'll keep you posted. In
the meantime, you can take a look at the NRHP

- December 11, 2005: The

- October 6, 2005: Check
out the photo gallery of this
fall's excavations, or this article which
appeared on the front page of the Rogers edition of the Morning News.
- October 3-7, 2005: We
will be returning to Van Winkle's Mill this fall in order to look for
the foundations of the gristmill building, clean off the boiler platform
and test the new cellar feature discovered during the field school.

like to volunteer or visit.
